I'm Leah Veenhuizen. I'm a registered nurse and a Master of Counselling student, and across more than a decade in hospitals and community health I watched the same thing happen over and over. People waiting months, and paying more than they could afford, for support that researchers up the road were offering for free to anyone who joined their study.
This is not a new interest. For a year I hosted Just A Thought with Leah V on 94.7 The Pulse in Geelong, a program about normalising conversations in mental health and wellbeing, where I interviewed researchers from across Australia about the work they had underway. Those conversations were the best part of the job, and they were always too short.
Almost nobody hears about that research until years after it finishes. Emerging Evidence exists to close that gap: to sit down with the people running current Australian studies, ask them what they are actually trying to find out, and put it in language that makes sense to the rest of us.
The show is editorial, not recruitment. If you are a researcher, or you work in communications for a university or institute, our editorial policy sets out exactly how we handle research, what we will and will not say on air, and how to get in touch.
